Die AMERIGO VESPUCCI wurde 1930 nach dem Vorbild der großen Fregatten des 19. Jahrhunderts gebaut. Die Idee zum Bau dieses ungewöhnlichen Schiffes hatte Francesco Rotundi, ein Oberleutnant des Marineingenieurkorps. Die AMERIGO VESPUCCI gehört zur "Academie Navale" in Livorno. Seit ihrer Indienststellung wurde die Amerigo Vespucci stets für die Ausbildung von Offizierskadetten an der Marineakademie eingesetzt. Bis 1965 unternahm sie 31 Seereisen von jeweils drei bis fünf Monaten Dauer, darunter vier transatlantische Überfahrten nach Nord- und Südamerika. Die Heckgalerie ist nur vom Salon des Kapitäns aus zu erreichen. Die Dekoration und die luxuriöse Ausstattung der Empfangsräume lassen fast vergessen, dass man sich auf einem Segelschiff befindet, das zur Marineausbildung eingesetzt wird. Eine lebensgroße Galionsfigur von Amerigo Vespucci ziert den Bug. Der florentinische Entdecker Vespucci unternahm zwischen 1497 und 1504 vier Entdeckungsreisen nach Südamerika. Seine detaillierten Berichte über die von ihm entdeckten Länder verbreiteten sich in ganz Europa und machten seinen Namen so berühmt, dass er damals als der eigentliche Entdecker Amerikas galt. Die AMERIGO VESPUCCI wurde in den Jahren 1951 und 1958 modernisiert. Die letzte Generalüberholung fand 1964 statt.

The Amerigo Vespucci was built in 1930 in the style of the 19th century type of large frigates. lt was Francesco Rotundi, a first lieutenant in the Naval Engineering Corps who came up with the idea of constructing this unusual vessel. The AMERIGO VESPUCCI belongs to the "Academie Navale" in Livorno.

Ever since he first went into service, the AMERIGO VESPUCCI has always been used for training officer cadets at the naval academy. Up to 1965 she made 31 ocean voyages of between three and five months each, induding four transatlantic crossings to North and South America.

The stern gallery can only be reached from the captain's saloon. The decor and luxurious fittings in the reception rooms almost make you forget that you are on a sailing ship used for naval training. A life-size figurehead of Amerigo Vespucci adorns the bow.

The Florentine explorer Vespucci made four voyages of discovery to South America between 1497 and 1504. His detailed accounts of the countries he discovered were distributed throughout Europe and made his name so famous that, at the time, he was regarded as the real discoverer of the Americas.

The AMERIGO VESPUCCI was modernised in 1951 and 1958 and had her last major overhaul in 1964.

La galerie de poupe n'est accessible que du salon du commandant. Le décor et l'élégance de l'équipement des pièces de réception font presque oublier que l'on se trouve à bord d'un voilier-ècole. La figure de proue est une représentation d'Amerigo Vespucci.

Le florentin Vespucci fit quatre voyages de découverte en Amérique du Sud entre les années 1497 et 1504. La précision de ses descriptions des pays découverts, répandues dans l'Europe entière, lui donna une telle célébrité que les gens de l'époque le considéraient comme le pionnier de la découverte des Amériques.

L'AMERIGO VESPUCCI fut modernisé en 1951 et 1958. La dernière grande révision eut lieu en 1964.
